“My Mausoleum” relates the personal experience of one of My Lament’s own. To feel locked in, unable to show one’s true self, can be torture, and we hope the cathartic second part of the song will inspire others to find their way to a better life.
As the mausoleum’s walls break down, claustrophobia gives way to hopeful yearning and proud determination, with Paul delivering one of his signature expressive leads.
lyrics
It’s quiet between these walls
Of black marble and sighs
Cold to the touch, seamless
To the world’s inquisitive eyes
This has been my fortress
For forty years or more
Frozen to the world outside
Frozen to the core
I’ve built a mausoleum
Of all that I hold dear
Nothing leaves or enters here
In my mausoleum
The past is locked in with me
The air is stale and dead
Echoes died out long ago
No more to be said
I walk along the walls at night
Cursing them aloud
Run my finger over them
Know them inside out
I’ve built a mausoleum
Of all that I hold dear
Cracks are starting to appear
In my mausoleum
I will tear it down
Brick by brick, stone by stone
I will shed my skin
To let the inside out
To let the outside in
In my mausoleum
An absolutely amazing album that reaches you to the bottom of the abyss. Gaia takes you by the hand, tells you that you're not alone in this, the pain is over, the misunderstanding of your pain is over and accompanied by keyboards, violins, acoustic guitars, cello and amazing vocals, she pulls you out of the disgusting mire of your mind and together you embark on a journey of melancholy, despondency, hope, pessimism and the seasons. tenebriscaedes
