Terra cotta faun Grinning on the lawns Must have seen how this serene Soiree will end Soon this golden hour Destined to turn sour The moon is gone, the deed is done The mystery spent Everything goes to waste Everything fades to grey Everything carries the taste Of future decay Everything turns to dust Your shining armor will rust Your star will fade The whole charade Fall to the ground Even now in your prime Feel the flow of time Drip by drip slip from your grip And drag you down Everything goes to waste Everything fades to grey Everything carries the taste Of future decay

My Mausoleum 07:56
It’s quiet between these walls Of black marble and sighs Cold to the touch, seamless To the world’s inquisitive eyes This has been my fortress For forty years or more Frozen to the world outside Frozen to the core I’ve built a mausoleum Of all that I hold dear Nothing leaves or enters here In my mausoleum The past is locked in with me The air is stale and dead Echoes died out long ago No more to be said I walk along the walls at night Cursing them aloud Run my finger over them Know them inside out I’ve built a mausoleum Of all that I hold dear Cracks are starting to appear In my mausoleum I will tear it down Brick by brick, stone by stone I will shed my skin To let the inside out To let the outside in In my mausoleum

I’ve learned to speak your name Ever so softly To conjure up your face Aloof and lovely Perhaps your ghost will stay If I move slowly And if I never think of all that hides In the corner of my eye Close behind Tumbling leaves of brown All through September Beneath a fading sun A dying ember The season came undone But I remember The bright lights The sacred and obscene And everything in-between No-one knows From my lament a world arose And as I try to walk away Before the storm The torn remains of broken stars Come raining down The world indifferent holds its tongue All is the same Like something almost being said I’ve learned to speak your name Ever so softly To conjure up your face Dead and lovely And when in mute despair I reached in vain You were already Loosened like long hair Poured out like fallen rain No longer mine And as I try to walk away Before the storm The torn remains of broken stars Come raining down The world indifferent holds its tongue All is the same Like something almost being said And when I speak your name I can make believe You’ll almost nearly Not quite hear me I close my eyes and think of death As long as I can hold my breath You’re almost barely Not quite near me When I speak your name

Oh, Fall 03:37
Turn of the season Birth of the new Death of the old Contemptible you Hailstones and keepsakes Shivers and storms Melancholy Takes a familiar and tangible form Oh, fall Will we remember the fall Memories of treason Nurtured like wounds Farcical longings Weltschmerz in June Take what I owe you Wipe clean the slate Harvest the land Winnow the hurt and the grief And the hate Oh, fall Will we remember the fall The fall of leaves of man of dreams Of best laid plans Of dead-end schemes From grace from hope From all that gleams To ruin Auburn colours pensive stares All pretty but it ends in tears Days you’ll spend the rest of the year Rueing Turn of the season Out with the new In with the cold The trite and the true Clarity’s reason The black and the white Winter is coming Welcome the crystalline dying of light Oh, fall Will we remember the fall Let’s fall like snowflakes you and me To ruin to pieces to our knees Like leaves to rot And feed these trees again The reaper’s bringing in the sheaves We come rejoicing, go like thieves The end of days The fall of leaves And men

All my dreams are memories All the stars are dead They’ve been dead for centuries We just haven’t noticed yet All of this will end in tears The future is a lie Believe it for a few more years And then you die Staring into black Eternity never meant to last Forever looking back To navigate by the ghosts of the past The dead and dying Still shining bright Darkness closing in on us At the speed of light When I was young I used to relish the fight I’m tired like a mayfly at midnight Rage against the dying of the light I’m tired like a mayfly at midnight I promised you the world I promised you a future with me But I don’t know if you’ve heard The future’s not what it used to be Dead or dying Still shining bright Darkness closing in on us At the speed of light When I was young I used to relish the fight I’m tired like a mayfly at midnight Rage against the dying of the light I’m tired like a mayfly at midnight I’m tired like a mayfly at midnight

November 03:05
I loved you in November When the stars were out Now I’m walking in the rain Dying to surrender Within, without Oh, I loved you in November And all the world is green I’ll sing for the sapling Sing for the seed The unbeatable slow machine And I’ll walk all night Surrender to the rain Hollowed out like a castle of sand Down the river into no man’s land I loved you in November When the stars were out Now I’m walking in the rain Dying to surrender Within, without But I lost you in December

Last summer breeze Left such a bitter taste Mark of disease All that lives must go to waste Idle hope succumbs to reason The evening light is fading fast Welcome the dying season Every night may be your last Life finds a way in the end Life will prevail Life will transcend Life will take its course Some find it comforting to hear But I must confess my darkest fear Is life’s unbridled force Life will be the death of me Life – life will be the death of me As autumn leaves So much to be desired We’re left to grieve The rites of spring expired Midwinter’s vow of silence The frozen lake, the dying hare But something stirs In dreams of violence Beneath the ice, down every lair Life finds a way in the end Life will prevail Llife will transcend Life will take its course Some find it comforting to hear But I must confess my darkest fear Is life’s unbridled force Life will be the death of me Life – life will be the death of me No more sorrow No more memories No more tomorrow Life will be the death of me Life finds a way Life finds a way to get you

about

“The Season Came Undone” (nine tracks, 51 minutes) reflects our ambition to reach a wider audience without giving up our doom/death heritage. With unique vocal harmonies, soaring leads, a pounding rhythm section and thoughtful lyrics, My Lament has matured into a forward-thinking foursome that doesn’t sound quite like any other band.
